Rum Ball Recipe

Ingredients
Vegetable oil, cooking spray
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, cut into pieces
6 ounces semisweet chocolate, thinly chopped
3 large eggs
1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons dark rum
Coarse sanding sugar, for rolling

Making Rum

Making Rum at home will take about 4-8 days to complete. Rum has been in production since the 17th century in the Caribbean, where the majority of rum production still takes place. It was traditionally made from sugarcane juice, but now is usually made from molasses or brown sugar.

Dark Rum

Dark rum is matured longer than clear white rum, usually in heavily charred oak barrels. It also possesses a far superior flavor than white rum or even gold rum, possible with a sweeter taste. It is frequently flavored with caramel, spices, molasses, vanilla and other subtle flavorings and nearly all dark rums are noticeable.
